Notarized affidavit in lieu of originals
Current VFS OCI checklists for several categories state that when copies are submitted instead of originals, a notarized affidavit in lieu of originals must be provided. Some checklists also call for a notarized undertaking when an applicant lives with parents, children, or relatives and uses their address proof.

Bring the VFS form, not just the supporting copy
North Carolina notaries cannot certify a photocopy as a true copy. If VFS requires an affidavit stating that copies are true copies of originals, bring that affidavit or the official format so the notary can notarize the signer’s eligible act rather than simply stamping a photocopy.
After notarization
VFS requires applicants to follow the submission and courier rules for the correct jurisdiction. North Carolina applicants should verify the current Raleigh or Washington DC instructions shown by VFS before mailing or attending an appointment.
